Meet The Author: Teel James Glenn

Teel James Glenn. Author of Courted in the anthology A Woman Unbecoming
He/him or they/them–no ego involved.

Teel’s poem, Courted, spoke so deeply to the nature of evil. It speaks of a relationship, a partnership, turned dark. It is dark, brutal, and perfect for the theme of our anthology.

No freedom ever granted
We did not have before
An incubator for your spawn
Dominance all you craved
Conjoining made us just your slave.

– a piece of Courted by Teel James Glenn

Just that tiny sliver of this poem brought so much emotion out of me. I truly hope you check out the full poem!

Q (Crone Girls Press): Author Interview Question 1: What drove your story for this anthology? Tell us the “story behind the story.”

A (Teel James Glenn): I wrote the poem, Courted, for the anthology— as ally and feminist all my life I have seen the gaslighting of so many on the right and particularly in light of the liars in the Supreme court I had to say something.

Q: What does it mean to read and write horror when you’re competing with news headlines (for example, this anthology came about in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade)? How has it changed (or not!) your approach to the genre as a writer or as a fan?

A: Horror is only one of the genres I write and for me the approach it all for the characters first and so in that sense the only change is to have characters confront the horrible things int he world more directly than before.

Q: There are a number of different flavors of horror. Where does your story fit, and what drew you to this particular category?

A: This poem is more about confronting the psychological horror of gaslighting.

Q: Why do you write horror? What about the genre appeals to you as an author?

A: the tension/ the suspense of confronting deep fear directly.

Q: What’s next in your writing journey?

A: writing a werewolf tale for a themed anthology on request, then back to a noir/monster novel.

In his own words:

I was born in Brooklyn but have traveled the world for thirty plus years as a stuntman, fight choreographer, swordmaster, jouster, illustrator, storyteller, director, bodyguard, and actor. One of the things I’m proudest of is having studied under Errol Flynn’s last stunt double. I continue to teach swordwork in New York.
As a writer, my stories have been printed in scores of magazines Mad, Fantasy Tales, Black Belt, Fantasy World Geographic, Blazing Adventures, Tales of Old and Weird Tales. I have over two dozen books and anthologies in print in many genres including Steampunk, westerns, mysteries and the best-selling SF thriller series The Exceptionals. One was a finalist in the EPIC book awards in 2009.
I am also the winner of the 2012 Pulp Ark Ward for Best Author.

I worked regularly as an actor on Guiding Light and New York soaps alternately doing stunts or acting in over 300 episodes. I’ve worked as an actor and stuntman (in a fight scene with Hawk) on the “Spenser for Hire” TV series and in episodes of the Equalizer.
My most famous ‘small screen’ appearance was as Vega (and fight choreographer) in the worldwide web series “Street Fighter: The Later Years.”
I went on to serve as a principal performer in front of the camera in over 70 low budget fantasy/horror genre films, often serving in a stunt capacity as well.”
