Paige’s story The Fall of the Ho-Man’s Empire is a thought provoking tale full of deep imagery and a poetic flow sure to grip your attention.
She thinks puddles have been running together inside her for a long time. That their wavered edges have been a long time in meeting, in forming, in resolving into a bright mirror. Resolving into resolution. Revolution.

Q (Crone Girls Press): Author Interview Question 1: What drove your story for this anthology? Tell us the “story behind the story.”
A (Author): I originally wrote this story (when I was a senior in college) for the first ever Gender Studies Writing Contest at St. Lawrence University. It won. It disturbs me greatly that it is more relevant now than it was 30 years ago.
Q: What does it mean to read and write horror when you’re competing with news headlines (for example, this anthology came about in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade)? How has it changed (or not!) your approach to the genre as a writer or as a fan?
A: I think any story that has intimate impact has the most power, in these time or any other. That’s always the way I approach what I write and what I am looking to read. Make someone CARE and anything is possible.
Q: There are a number of different flavors of horror. Where does your story fit, and what drew you to this particular category?
A: Quiet horror is always my favorite. Gore just shuts me down, and that’s not what I’m looking for in a creative work.
Q: Why do you write horror? What about the genre appeals to you as an author?
A: I love to read horror, but I rarely write it. I’m usually write epic fantasy and contemporary fantasy. That said, I firmly believe that if a story needs telling, it finds the form and genre that best fits it, regardless. In the right hands, horror can tap so many levels of emotion that it is an incredibly impactful tool for thought and change.
Q: What’s next in your writing journey?
A: I have just completed writing the final book in my Legacies of Arnan series. Currently I am currently working on several short stories, and a new stand alone novel about a cabal of criminal female monastics…
